Glendronach Traditionally Peated
Hidden deep in the east Highland hills, The GlenDronach Distillery has been quietly perfecting sherry wood maturation since 1826. Our founder, James Allardice, built his distillery in the fertile landscape of the Forgue valley and named it 'GlenDronach'- which means 'valley of the brambles' in Scots Gaelic. Here he discovered the rich depths of sherry wood maturation, marrying Scottish spirit to Spanish cask.
Little has changed over the centuries, our craftsmen using the same iron mash tun, wooden washbacks, and saxophone-shaped copper pot stills as their forefathers did. To honor The GlenDronach's early whisky-making heritage, Master Blender Rachel Barrie has crafted The GlenDronach Traditionally Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky using the same principles laid down by our founder almost two centuries ago. At this time, it was traditional practice in the Highlands to burn peat in the kiln towards the end of the barley malting, creating a rich and warm, earthy smoke.
Interwoven with robust Highland character, The GlenDronach Traditionally Peaated has all the full-bodied richness of The GlenDronach. Matured in the finest Pedro Ximenez, Olorose sherry, and port casks, this rar peated expression from The GlenDronach presents notes of Highland toffee, treacle, and smoked bramble, with a lingering, rich, and earthy finish.
