A quality boutique winery in the heart of the Judean Hills
The combination of our love of wine, of Israel and our youthful spirit leads to the creation of the distinctive wines at Flam (winery). The resulting wines are exciting, Mediterranean in style, due to a never ending process of innovative creation in the heart of the Judean Hills for over a decade.
The vision of the winery was born in Tuscany (Toscana) – Chianti Classico in 1996. While on a fascinating tour amongst the splendid wineries of this enchanting region, Gilad & Golan decided to build a boutique winery in the Land of Israel, which shall be surrounded by superb vineyards, and would be the source of the best possible Israeli wines.
In 1998 this dream was becoming a reality. Golan & Gilad Flam established Flam winery in the Judean Hills. Their father, Israel Flam, was for over 30 years a renowned winemaker in the biggest winery in Israel: Carmel winery. Their mother, Kami Flam, joined them as a founder & active partner, drawing from her extensive background as a businesswoman, and contributing to the great success.
The winery has been drawing the faithful attention of wine lovers, restaurateurs, and numerous wine critics from Israel and abroad ever since. The winery is situated in the picturesque view of the Judean Hills, at the origin of the Kisalon Creek and at the foot of the Kdoshim Forest, merged with the natural scenery, and combines high quality wines with Flam’s second generations’ refreshing attachment to the land.
Excellent vineyards are elementary for quality wine
Here at Flam we adhere to the European dogma that the basis for great wine is in the vineyards, and that is why our vineyards and their terroir are our first priority.
The search for the very best soils, with the vision of creating premium wines, was an arduous journey for the Flam family. A journey that transversed mountain ridges and valleys, carefully examining microclimates, soils, seasonal adaptations until the most suitable soils were chosen. The vines were then planted in the Upper Galilee and the Judean Hills in the very best plots which produce exquisite fruit in very low yields.
The myriad of different soil types that constitute our carefully managed vineyards, contribute to powerful and expressive wines that showcase the rich Mediterranean viticulture heritage that is being revitalized..
About the winemaker
Golan’s passion for winemaking has been part of him since childhood, while he was playing in the experimental vineyards of the University of California Davis viticulture & oenology program, where his father was a student.
Golan started his professional career studying agriculture in Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot ,at the Hebrew University Jerusalem, and continued his studies for a master’s degree in viticulture & oenology in the Piacenza University near Milan.
His ideology: I firmly believe that the secret of wine’s allure and its marvelous taste are rooted in the winemakers’ devotion to the vine cultivation in the vineyards (pruning, shoot thinning, green harvest, and finally harvesting at best phenolic maturation), followed by a hands on approach to all the processes taking place within the winery.
We consider the purity of fruit, and its delicate balance with the oak derived flavors of paramount importance. Each vineyard is divided into distinct plots. The fruit originating in a certain plot is then fermented and aged separately in order to highlight the integrity of the terroir of each vineyard. The final blend amounts to more than the mere sum of its constituent parts.
We are committed to the production of high quality Israeli wines, boasting intense colors, rich fruity aromas with finely integrated oak. Our wines are both rich & powerful, as much as they are balanced & velvety. Our Team here at Flam winery believes in sustained quality and a commitment to excellence that are expressed both in the vineyards and the winemaking process.
